Lite-On Technology signed a deal with China's Changzhou city government on July 27 to increase its investment in LED (Light-Emitting Diode) production in China, as reported by Taiwan's United Daily News on July 30. Following an initial spending of US$600 million, Lite-On will earmark another US$450 million to augment the scale of its Changzhou base in three to five years. The expansion includes R&D and production facilities for various LED applications such as automotive electronics, street lighting, and indoor illumination. Since its inauguration in 2009, Lite-On's Changzhou base has seen a strong growth in annual sales, expecting to top 6 billion RMB (US$977.5 million; US$1=6.1379 RMB) in 2013.
